Innovations and Cloud Adoption Accelerating Proliferation of The Internet of Things (IoT) in India

Every day, we have been bombarded with a plethora of business jargons and buzzwords. Haven’t we? Each industry has its fair proportion of buzzwords, slangs and business jargons, but none of them has so much as the IT industry, and most of these buzzwords and jargons are completely misinterpreted by many of us in terms of their implications on our day to day lives. Internet of Things, commonly known as IoT is one of the buzzwords that are grossly misunderstood, because majority of people think that it has something to do with IT sector only.

Emergence of The Internet of Things

The birth of IoT can be traced back to the 19th century, particularly it came into existence in the year 1950. Started as a trial to bridge a communication network between two labs has evolved into an avant-garde network that connects billions of interconnected devices to exchange information without human intervention. From this we can say that internet has surely come a long way and has engulfed in our day to day lives.

Although the concept of the Internet of Things is a wee bit perplexing, but we will try to understand it by looking at technologically advanced equipment and devices that are capable of exchanging information with each other and are smart enough to sense, monitor, and even react to human behavior.
If we try to look at IoT from the Indian perspective, we will observe that we are witnessing a tremendous shift to innovation and technological advancement, all thanks to ‘make in India’ initiative taken by the Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

These days, people are already using mobile apps to access TV, music systems, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave oven and many other devices. There are apps that can sync with your air conditioners so that you can control your device even from the remote location and by the time you reach your place, you will be welcomed with a hush of cool and breezy air. Today, IoT has touched almost all the aspects of our life and it would be interesting to measure the impact of this latest technology revolution in different industries.

Agriculture and Farming

India is a land of agriculture and more than 40% of India’s employment is driven by this sector. The Internet of Things has been playing a crucial role in this sector as well by developing avant-garde information systems that provide real time data about sudden climatic change and soil composition to farmers. The advent of IoT and connected device is a great step in this direction. The IoT device needs to be placed in the soil in order to provide real time information related to soil nutrients, minerals, pH, moisture, and other crucial factors to enable cloud solutions to intimate farmers if anything goes wrong. Several cloud based solutions are being developed to assist farmers to improve their agricultural output through better insights of soil related parameters and climatic conditions as well.

Government Sector in India

There are several initiatives taken up by the Government of India including safety of women, help-lines for patients, development of smart cities, intelligent transport system, telemedicine, smart grids, and so forth. All these initiatives of the Government of India are backed by internet technologies.
Government of India has recently collaborated with National Association of Software and Services to set up a Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, in order to aid entrepreneurs and startups to develop technologically advanced concepts that are focused at IoT. All such government initiatives are in the direction of creating an ecosystem for the growth and expansion of the Internet of Things.

Healthcare and Fitness Industry

Go to any online store and in the search box simply type fitness brands or wearable devices. Once you press enter, you’ll be bombarded with a wide repertoire of wearable devices or fitness brands that have been highly sought-after by fitness freaks and health enthusiasts. These wearable devices come in various forms such as smart watches or wrist brands that can be easily synchronized with your tablets or smartphones and can be customized as per individual health parameters.
Some of these wearable devices are designed to track your personal fitness on daily basis. Whether you want to monitor your heart rate, blood glucose levels, blood flow or blood pressure, these wearable devices have got you covered. The best part of these wearable devices is that they can be programmed to communicate with healthcare centers in case of any abnormality or irregularity in your body.

Many leading enterprises in the healthcare industry such as Cooey and CardealLabs have driven the technological growth in the IoT ecosystem. India is all set to accomplish its dream of ‘healthcare for all’ by pushing these revolutionary technologies in the healthcare industry.

E-commerce and Business

Optimization of business process has become quite easier with IoT. With the help of IoT, you can get meaningful insights about customer behavior by tracking their search histories and in-store movements. Similarly in ecommerce stores, you can design customized sales promotion campaigns for your customers to increase conversions and customer retention. Moreover, you can witness the role of the Internet of Things in transport sector and manufacturing sector as well.
Conclusion: Indeed, proliferation of IoT has not only bring advancement in different sectors and industry verticals, but also created a demand for Cloud and IoT Training in India.
